Alison Hahn & John Hasegawa
November 14 - December 19

Enduring Transience, a two person exhibition, features digital
photographs by Alison Hahn and ceramic vessels by John Hasegawa.
Both Hahn and Hasegawa are instructors at the Paducah School of Art.
Artists' Reception: November 14, 5-7 p.m.
Alison Hahn's digital photographs are inspired by the Dutch Golden
Age paintings that explore the transient nature of life through
symbolism with hidden messages about mortality and the brevity
of life. Hahn's photographs in her Vanitas series are intended to
evoke similar emotions of drama, mystery, and awe found in
"Vanitas" still life paintings.
John Hasegawa's ceramic vessels reflect the arcane and spiritual
nature of the Mizusashi, Japanese ceremonial water jars. Like the
Mizusashi, the subtleness, the intentional imperfection, and the
gestures give each of his pots its own remark. The slashes and
marks that Hasegawa makes across the surfaces of his vessels
capture the energetic motion of transformation from a ball of
clay to a finished vessel.

"Coming into Tibet"

I have had a long time appreciation for Tibet, and I have spent much time there. When I began traveling to Tibet, it was a very difficult place to visit; however, it is more fantastic than can be imagined. It is a land with a deeply religious people and immense contrast: snowy peaks and sand deserts, barren plateaus and forested mountains, empty expanses and crowded cities.
BiLan Liao: born in Hunan Province, China
MFA Kendall College of Art and Design
Taught art to children in a special program affiliated with Purdue
University in West Lafayette, Indiana from August 2001 to May 2006
Adjunct Professor at Herron School of Art and Design - Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis
