Fantastic Fibers 2010
Bigger & Better than ever.
It’s that time again! Fantastic Fibers 2010 is guaranteed to be the
best mixed fiber exhibit that Paducah has ever seen. We received
close to 600 entries from 137 fiber artists from Belgium, Canada,
England, Germany, Peru, South Africa, and from 38 states including Hawaii and the District of Columbia. The jurors chose 56 works from 45 fiber artists. This is a show that is not to be missed.
“Fantastic Fibers” is an annual international juried competitive
exhibition that seeks to showcase a wide range of outstanding works related to the fiber medium. This exhibit runs alongside the National Quilt Society’s Quilt Week in Paducah.

Enduring Transience
Recent works by Paducah School of Art instructors
Alison Hahn & John Hasegawa
November 14 - December 19

Enduring Transience, a two person exhibition, features digital
photographs by Alison Hahn and ceramic vessels by John Hasegawa.
Both Hahn and Hasegawa are instructors at the Paducah School of Art.
Artists' Reception: November 14, 5-7 p.m.
Alison Hahn's digital photographs are inspired by the Dutch Golden
Age paintings that explore the transient nature of life through
symbolism with hidden messages about mortality and the brevity
of life. Hahn's photographs in her Vanitas series are intended to
evoke similar emotions of drama, mystery, and awe found in
"Vanitas" still life paintings.
John Hasegawa's ceramic vessels reflect the arcane and spiritual
nature of the Mizusashi, Japanese ceremonial water jars. Like the
Mizusashi, the subtleness, the intentional imperfection, and the
gestures give each of his pots its own remark. The slashes and
marks that Hasegawa makes across the surfaces of his vessels
capture the energetic motion of transformation from a ball of
clay to a finished vessel.
October 9 - November 6, 2009: Wood-O-Rama
