The Yeiser Art Center has a new artist residency program that will run from February through October 2020. The goals of this new program are:

  • give artists the space to make and/or sell work in historic downtown Paducah.
  • give the public access to these artists through open studio hours, artist talks, and workshops.

The Artist Is In residency is open to fine arts, crafts, performers, and writers. Groups are eligible to apply, but each collaborator must be named in the residency proposal.

The space can be used for (but is not limited to) studio, installation, performance, writing, planning, teaching, or selling. Your project proposal should include a thorough explanation of how you plan to use the space. Any sales made in the space are subject to a 40% commission by YAC.

YAC staff will be available to offer basic administrative support for the artist during each residency. They will help promote any related programming through social media and website.

RESIDENCY SPACE

The residency space is at the front of the gallery, with easy access from the street. Natural light comes from two windows, front doors, and open layout of the entire space. The residency space itself does not have a lockable door, the gallery is protected with an alarm system during closed hours. The residency space contains counter space and cabinet space. Wifi is available in the gallery.

EXPECTATIONS

The artist in residence would be expected to return the space to its original condition and is not allowed to use the space in a way that would permanently damage the floors, walls, or cabinets. Traditional hanging of work on walls is permitted, but must be repaired at the conclusion of the residency. YAC will provide materials for the artist to patch and paint the walls.
The artist in residence would be expected to interact with the community during their residency, for a number of hours agreed upon by them & YAC.

DEADLINES & FEES

Email application materials in one email to director@theyeiser.org.

Each submission must be accompanied by a $40 application fee. This payment can be paid in cash at the gallery, or by check (made out to Yeiser Art Center), or by PayPal (office@theyeiser.org). Your application is NOT complete until you have paid the fee.

Deadline to apply is January 26th.

Notifications will be made by February 1, 2020.

Each chosen artist in resident (or group) will receive a $500 honorarium.

  • Artist bio
  • Resume or CV
  • Project description – should include the following:
    • Proposed residency dates between February & October 2020 and can run from 1-4 weeks
    • How the space will be used; studio space, pop up event like a special art sale, book signing, etc.
    • explanation of how this residency will help your studio practice any community events like workshops or artist talks that you would host
    • 5-10 high resolution images of your work, writing samples, project sketches, or a combination of two professional references with contact info

Fantastic Fibers 2020

Yeiser Art Center is now accepting entries for the FANTASTIC FIBERS 2020 international juried exhibition. One of Yeiser Art Center’s most engaging and innovative international exhibitions, FANTASTIC FIBERS seeks to showcase a wide range of outstanding contemporary works related to the fiber medium.

AWARDS:
$1,900 will be awarded.
• $1,000 Best of Show
• $500 First Place
• $250 Second Place
• $150 Third Place

IMPORTANT DATES:
February 16, 2020 – Deadline to apply
March 1, 2020 – Notification of acceptance
April 4, 2020,  5pm – Work due at Yeiser Art Center
Reception: TBD (awards announced during reception; artists do NOT need to be present to win)
May 30, 2020 – Close of show

YAC Members’ Show 2020

January 17-18 Deadline for Entry

Every year the Yeiser Art Center proudly hosts an Annual Members Show to honor its members and showcase their artistic works in a single comprehensive exhibition.

YAC Members are diverse in their artistic practices and mediums and include (but are not limited to) fiber artists, sculptors, painters, poets, performers, and photographers. Ray Black & Sons generously sponsors this exhibition each year in memory of founding Yeiser Art Center member, Virginia Black.

This year, we have the pleasure of partnering with The Carson Center, as part of its celebration of Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. As an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest, the NEA Big Read broadens our understanding of our world, our communities, and ourselves through the joy of sharing a good book.

Artists interested in submitting work for the Yeiser Art Center Members Show in 2020 are encouraged to follow the theme of “Censorship in Art.” Each Yeiser Art Center member with a current membership is eligible to submit one piece of artwork for free, additional pieces for $20 each.

All art must be accompanied by label information that includes the following: artist name, title of work, date created, medium, price (YAC retains a 40% commission of sales) or NFS (not for sale), and a short statement (preferably one paragraph) that explains how the artwork relates to the theme of “Censorship in Art.” If you do not submit a statement, your work can be included in the exhibition, but will not be considered for the monetary awards.

* Please only submit artwork that has not been exhibited in the Yeiser Art Center Members Show in previous years.

Josh Morehead will be choosing awards for the 2020 exhibition.

Josh Morehead is the Director of Education and Assistant Director of Development at The Carson Center for the Performing Arts. He is currently working on a Certificate of Fundraising Management from the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy at Indiana University. Josh is a Paducah native and loves witnessing the arts flourish in our community.
